Welding wire is designed for welding various metals using automatic and semi-automatic welding machines in various industries - construction, mechanical engineering and many others. Modern industry produces various types of welding wire, differing in the material from which the welding wire is made, the presence of a coating that improves its electrical properties, the presence of flux and other additives, designed for welding in a normal atmosphere or in a shielding gas environment. In addition, welding wire may differ in its design - it can be monolithic, with the inclusion of additional powder additives or tubular, containing metal powder with flux. The material of the welding wire can also vary greatly, from conventional low-alloy steel to steel with a large amount of alloying elements and stainless steel. Each type of welding wire has its own area of application, where its use allows you to get the best result when performing welding work.

Welding wire is produced in a wide range, various types of welding wire are available on the market, differing in their technical characteristics. By design, there are three main types of welding wire:

Solid welding wire - this welding wire is made of a homogeneous alloy and can be used for welding using automatic and semi-automatic welding machines. Solid wire can be uncoated, but copper-plated wire is more popular, which has high welding properties and provides better welding quality than uncoated welding wire.

Activated welding wire - to improve the welding properties, such welding wire includes additional powder additives. Activated welding wire can be used by automatic and semi-automatic welding machines, but it requires a protective gas atmosphere for welding, which is usually provided by the supply of CO2, another inert gas or a mixture of gases.

Flux-cored welding wire - has a slightly different design than other types of welding wire. It is a tube filled with metal powder mixed with flux. A feature of the use of such a welding wire is the absence of the need to supply inert gas to the welding area - the necessary shielding gas is released during the melting of the flux that is part of this welding wire.

Requirements for Welding Wire

Given the variety of types of welding wire and the various tasks that are set when performing welding work, there are no uniform requirements for welding wire. The main requirement is the highest quality and durable welding of metals in each specific case, regardless of the welding technology, materials that are joined by welding and other factors that may differ significantly depending on the conditions in which welding is carried out.
